It was in January of 1992 my sister invited me to the church she was attending which happened to be a United Pentecostal church. I had previously visited two non-denominational churches with coworkers so I had an open mind about other churches besides catholic churches so I had no problem accepting her invitation.
I remember the very first time I visited a non-denominational church I came home and told Raul, honey it was the greatest feeling I have ever experienced. I could honestly say it felt like Jesus was sitting right there next to me. The presence of the Holy Spirit was so strong it made me want more! So needless to say when my sister invited us, I told Raul we have to go.
Of course this church was different from the other two but I had a desire to learn about Jesus and about salvation so I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in February 1992. A few weeks later I was baptized. It was the best decision I could have ever made. Little did I know what was in store for me in the months to follow, but God knew. He already had a plan and a purpose for my life.
How is my life different now? I tell people that if I had not come to know Christ when I did I would probably be dead or in prison. The reason I say this is because when you are lost you don’t realize the enemy has you in bondage. He tells you so many lies you start believing them and you no longer can think straight. You cannot reason. And of course this could turn to making very poor choices with serious consequences. I thank God every day for saving me and reminding me that I am his daughter and that he loves me so much….so much that he died for me so that I could have eternal life with him.
I also tell people just because I am a Christian it doesn’t mean I’m perfect. People have this misconception that we’re supposed to be “perfect”. I remind them that I’m not perfect but I am “forgiven”. The bible verse that has sustained me throughout my walk with God is Proverbs 3:5-6. I live my life on that verse through the good times and the bad times. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Purpose Statement: I purpose to build a strong personal relationship with Jesus Christ by daily prayer, devotionals and discipling others. My desire is to become more Christ like so that others may see Christ in me.
I purpose to do this for my family so that the legacy I leave behind will be that of a Godly wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece, cousin and friend.
I purpose to be faithful in serving God by giving of my tithes and offerings and by giving of my time and talents with the gifts of love and compassion to all of God’s children within Fortress church, my family and my community.
